OLD MISSION PENINSULA ANNOUNCES DONOR WALL DESIGN COMPETITION

On behalf of the “new” Old Mission Peninsula School in Traverse City, Michigan, the Old Mission Peninsula Education Foundation (OMPEF) is accepting design proposals for an original work of art for the school that will function as a donor recognition installation.  The school building and property has returned to its community and will serve as a K-6 elementary school September, 2018 as well as a community center on Old Mission Peninsula known for its natural beauty as well as its long-standing community commitment to education dating back to the 1800’s.

The commissioned donor wall will be installed in the school’s main foyer, visible to all visitors.  All mediums will be considered.  The design must take into consideration the school children’s safety and ability to walk within close range of the wall.  The finished piece should extend no more than one foot out from the wall.  The design must also include the capability to add donor names as necessary after final installation in a professional looking, yet cost-effective manner.

The featured wall is brick – browns and reds.  The dimensions of the installation space is 16 feet wide by 6 feet tall with the ability to carry on the design theme to adjoining hallways.

We encourage artists to incorporate elements from the natural surroundings of the Peninsula.  Mixed media preferred.  In keeping with the high degree of community involvement and how working together can achieve amazing results, we encourage artists to work together when entering the competition.

Please include as much detailed information as possible in the design proposal.  Drawings, sketches, or computer-generated designs should include descriptions and/or samples of colors, dimensions, and materials.  Please include the full price of the final entry including installation fees and the cost to add donors in the future. Files must be sent as JPEG or PDF files, no larger than 2MB.  Label each attached document with the artist's last name, first name, design title and email contact.  Please include a brief narrative description of the proposed design and information about the artist(s): CV, website, web links or images of similar previous work.

Please visit OMPEF.org to learn more about the school and Foundation.

OMPEF shall narrow finalists to the top three designs.  The final design selection will be determined by the highest number of community votes received by midnight May 15, 2018.

All design proposals must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on April 1, 2018.  For further information and to submit a proposal, please send an email to info@ompef.org.
